Stormwind City (a.k.a. New Stormwind or simply Stormwind) is located north of Elwynn Forest on Azeroth's northwest coast, and is the capital city of the kingdom known as Stormwind and the largest human city of Azeroth. However the city-state also controls or influences other territories, which include Elwynn Forest, Northshire Valley, the Redridge Mountains, Westfall, and Duskwood.
Recent events have led to the eventual return of King Varian Wrynn to his homeland and his rightful throne. In his absence his son Anduin Wrynn was temporarily crowned king. Due to his young age, Highlord Bolvar Fordragon was made regent until Varian returned home or Anduin came of age. Along with Bolvar's aid, the mysterious Lady Katrana Prestor helped the child king rule the city. The city is named for the occasional sudden squalls created by a ley line pattern in the mountains around the glorious city, and is one of the last great human cities. The city itself has been rebuilt at least once, and is a marvel of human design and engineering. Its guards keep the peace within the city's walls
Still my favorite city in the game. It's got everything you need in one place: AH, trainers, bank, and a quick instance to run lowbies through. If it had portals--I've got my fingers crossed for Cataclysm--I'd never step foot in Dalaran.
My main is a human (as is every other character I've ever played), so Stormwind's got a special place in my heart. I do wish the instance portals around the city were open, though. I'd love to see what's in that instance in the little prison in the Canals, and I definitely want to know what's in the instance behind the gate in the city walls. Hopefully that will get opened up soon, perhaps in Cataclysm.
Again, another city I couldn't find my way around when I first arrived. Slowly I started to learn where everything was which wasn't really a hard task for the city. I love how the different parts of the city change so dramatically and there is more than just one part that stands out from the rest.
Whenever I've played Alliance, SW is the hub of all Ally commerce, just like Org on the Horde side. I hate the layout of this city though. Everyone crams into the trade quarter which is right at the entrance so lag is nasty. Then there's the kind of Horseshoe shape with the holy users in the middle, separating the magic classes from the melee classes. The profession trainers are in random spots around the moats and not really logically laid out. Not a favorite city by any means...
Stormwind, to me, is a visual representation of what the Alliance is. A beautiful noble city full of pride toward its faction (aka the lions everywhere).
The port location is horrible. You have to fall out of a tower in the most useless part of town. My elephant mounts don't fit under the arches, either.
Though it takes a bit of time to master the layout, the city is a beautifully made zone. If you really think about it, everything makes sense where it is. Come Cataclysm, it'll be a breathtaking site.
But yeah, since they opened the back door/harbour, it's been much easier

Might hold this in mind for future copy pasta lore though.
I take it you've spent some time in Orgrimmar :-)
Anyways, this is my favorite city in WoW. Feels the most alive.
