Pretty much one word to sum it all up, stairs.

This sun-blasted city is home to the Sandfury trolls, known for their particular ruthlessness and dark mysticism. Troll legends tell of a powerful sword called Sul'thraze the Lasher, a weapon capable of instilling fear and weakness in even the most formidable of foes. Long ago, the weapon was split in half. However, rumors have circulated that the two halves may be found somewhere within Zul'Farrak's walls. Reports have also suggested that a band of mercenaries fleeing Gadgetzan wandered into the city and became trapped. Their fate remains unknown. But perhaps most disturbing of all are the hushed whispers of an ancient creature sleeping within a sacred pool at the city's heart - a mighty demigod who will wreak untold destruction upon any adventurer foolish enough to awaken him.

Agreed. The open air, the ruins, being able to actually mount up in a dungeon...all that was cool. Then you got to the stair fight. It was just amazing going through there the first time : )

This was an instance that was extremely epic for its level. Ringing the gong and watching Ghaz'Rilla emerge for the first time, then standing atop the pyramid as you got rushed by trolls... both were moments that truly sold me on the game.

This one and I have a love hate. Love it on my DK (running lower lvls) hate it with my hunter.
I will always remember That Tank (as he is forever known by the guild) Most people move up the stairs at the start... no, he stayed at the bottom and pull all of the first spawns. I think everyone in group maxed out their mana pools saving is sorry behind lol

back in my day finding a group to trek to Hinterlands; then scale Jintha'Alor all the while competing with other groups or contending with opposing players in a contested zone to forge a Mallet of Zul'Farrak was a true adventure.

doing all this and returning to Zul'Farrak to summon and slay Gahz'rilla was a journey of epic proportions.

obtaining a Carrot on a Stick was a right of passage.
