My favorite BG... well used to be. In my battle group AV is currently a drag race with little confrontation. They need to buff those adds standing next to the Generals and make capping towers a must. Tanks are cutting through the bosses and adds like they are cheesecake.
I am with agreement with Massdesign
I used to run AV nightly for hours on end and it was a blast. As Furer stated it really does actually feel like a battle and while capture the flag is fun it doesn't have the same large scale strategic feel that old AV did before it was turned into a zerg match. Low level AV still has some spirit but I almost wish back for the days of NPC's every 20 yards and doing all the mid-game quests.
for the longest time this was my favorite BG. the various nerfs over the years though have made this more of a headlong zerg instead of the massive battle it once was. i fondly remember groups stockpiling blood or other player loot to summon the various available NPC's to join the fray. those were good times.
It really would be amazing if some of the epic feel could be brought back into AV.
Summoning Lok and having it turn the tide of battle, massive fights at chokepoints, desparate fights to defend/capture a tower...
Now most people complain about 'turtling' if an AV takes more than 15 minutes to complete. : (
One of my favorite moments in WoW was an AV where we were down 50 resources to 200. We banded together and won through 20 minutes of pure slaughter : )
I admit, I never really played AV until recently. I know that, in order to win it, you're really supposed to down the opposite faction leader... But I've found that I do enjoy the times when it's just us and them, holding the line, the occasional brave (foolish) soul trying to cross into the other side and getting cut down in the massive incoming damage from the casters in the back and the melee in the front who are all angry about the encroaching opponent.
It's a great feeling to watch your enemies falling back as you push harder and harder into the fray.
Seems like the Alliance has an overwhelming presence in AV at all times... At least in my realm :\ It's pretty much killed my ability to enjoy this bg, can't give it a good rating :(
I hate the reinforcements that was added. People dont even bother setting up the aerial strike, and most people dont even know HOW to release the elemental anymore
The old AV was epic...it felt alot more 'alive' than it does now, with all captain NPC's and quests, it felt more like an actual battle than it does now...but it still deserves a red
so epic i can not describe the epicness i had when i finaly, for the first time in my life, twinked out at level 60...i even re-did that one last time before the level 59 AV changes, leveling from 51-61 in this battleground is the most epic bg experience the world has ever known...if only we could rewind time and redo this amazing place....
also losing is a bitch, and happens hell of a lot, so im goig to go ahead and say that, this place is either truly amazing, or the worst place in the game, depending on who you are of course
Personally, I liked AV much more back in the old days, when the battles would go for days at an end... It really felt grand and epic. After the changes to the battleground, it turned into total zergfest with two sides often completely ignoring each others' presence in a mad rush to the finish.
I still participate from time to time, but it lost most of its appeal.
I didn't play back in pre-BC where AV so for me all I know is the stupid race that it is now. It is so frustrating to watch youre entire team rush to Bal ignoring defense and bunkers for a small amount of hono and costing us games over and over. That said there is the few times you get a good team, force the Alliance into a turtle and slowly steamroll your way through, racking up massive numbers of HKs do make up for it. I just wish AV was fun consitently not only sometimes.
A side note though, I do absolutely love the fact that it takes 8 seconds to cap a flag and that psychic scream lasts exactly 8 seconds.

Usually there is no PvP in this battleground. But when there is, it is epic... like defending the keep against waves and waves of gnomes until alliance runs out of resources.
I liked this BG alot, becuase it had huge PvE elements as well as some pretty cool mechanics if your group does the quests. You can get reinforcements, huge trees and all kinds of neet stuff going on.If both sides do it, the battle truely is epic. Alas, most of the time AV isn't about PvP but about zerging towers and graveyards.. =[ Wasted potential.
the reason i like this place, is because if your not level 80, in your epic pve raid gear of killing stuff, your probably back in the 50's and 60's and 70's bracket, where the only way to kill Van or Drek, is to have all 40 of your players on that guy at once and down him asap, since, where are you going to find a tank in the 51-59's AV? A Deathknight? good luck, they last a while but, if a single bunker is up, your toast
The Best BG , lost some skills over the years , and any fool can Zerg it ,, but if you have even 20 of your team respond to a plan its a great fun huge mess
back before BGs gave xp, my battlerealm on alliance always won because every time 50-60 av comes up it would be 10 horde to 40 alliance, i had so much fun plowing through the place, the horde never made it past even the middle of the map

But it's now bypassed/unneeded, just like Lok etc unfortunately
