Dalaran, the city of mages has a lot of neat things! There is a gnome mage that runs around randomly and sheeps visitors. There are citizens of Dalaran, sewers you can go into. Lots of magic aray and fun things. Two banks, many mailboxes.
Dalaran is beautiful.
The big con to me, as a mage is the trainers cannot respec.
Dalaran (aka Dalaran City) is a magocratic city-state and was once located within the Alterac Mountains in the Eastern Kingdoms. This was one of several kingdoms that emerged as the Empire of Arathor declined (see Seven Kingdoms and The Seven Kingdoms). Its leaders rule the single city. Recently, the city, including the Violet Citadel, was somehow moved to its current location floating above the Crystalsong Forest in Northrend - close to the border with Icecrown. Ruled by the Kirin Tor, Dalaran is one of the original seven kingdoms originating from the days of the Nation of Arathor. From the time of its foundation until the time of Arthas' siege against the city and subsequent destruction, the Violet Citadel had served as the focal point for magi and the study of the arcane throughout human history. The kingdom's national color is violet and its flag is a yellow, possibly golden, eye set against a light purple background.
Dalaran would've gotten a better rating from me if it wasn't for the lag. So small place for so many players to be. Other than that, its a beautifully designed city.
I wish it was a bit bigger... Dalaran looks great and there a lot of little things going on all the time... but people are so cramed and the lag is horrible sometimes. Sure, it gives you the feeling that your realm really lives as there are so many people in one place, but still, a bit more room to spread out would be great.
Yay doing loops around the city endlessly when you're bored. And even searching for the well read achievement to provide an excuse to run around in a circle. Fun times <3
i spent years anxious to see what was behind that big purple dome in the eastern kingdoms. then they give it to me and i'm much satisfied. it's big but not as overwhelming as Shatt. again has plenty of options. profession trainers for everything under the sun. a place inside a city for people to duel and compare epeens. but the best part though - portals. lots and lots of portals.
I think people vote higher on this city simply because it's the "Cool Kid" in town. I don't see much that's special about Dal other than being the Hub of activity in Northrend due to the trainers and portals. My 80s have their hearths here, simply for the portals to everywhere and grouping for heroics and raids, but that's it. If it weren't for Dal being the 80 hangout, I'd still hearth to Shat or Org.
There is some nifty eye-candy in Dal, and it has a pretty good layout. The real drawback is the size of the city itself. It didn't occur to Blizz that Wrath has a larger player base than either BC or classic WoW, and yet they designed a new capital that is a fraction of the size of any previous city they've made. Cramped quarters compared to its BC counterpart, Shattrath. Small wonder why there are so many lag problems.
Way too laggy here. My computer can handle it no problem, but if you play on an older computer on the go, it can be a nightmare. I understand the storyline needing horde and alliance to both end up here, but it sure sucks for gameplay.
