I can't see how this city would get any better than Uncommon rating.
- It's always empty
- It's completely out of the way (which explains the emptiness i guess)
- It's not exactly pretty or exciting when compared to Silvermoon for example
- It's spread on way too much ground. too much emptyness.
I liked the emptiness as far as lore goes. The night elves are supposed to be fairly uncommon compared to the other races. Darnassus made a great first impression on me early in my WoW career, but I agree now that it feels too spread out and a bit dead.
Well, they were built by the same people.
I'm not exactly a fan of Night Elf architecture. It always seems like they let little kids design treehouses and just sent an adult around with a hammer to make sure they'd be sturdy.
Darnassus is the greatest city of the night elves, housing the leaders of both the druids and the faithful of Elune. It is carefully guarded by Sentinels, ancient protectors, and ancients of war. The city is formidable in spite of the peaceful natures of the night elves. In addition to the night elves, many guests and diplomats from elsewhere reside here, such as groups from the Explorer’s Guild and the Knights of the Silver Hand, as well as a few representatives of the Horde negotiating peace treaties. The population here is almost entirely elven, and most of the night elves are tolerant of others. However there is political strife between the druids and priests.LoM 22
The atmosphere in the city is a quiet and somewhat a melancholic one. It does not have the feeling of confinement that one feels in Stormwind or Ironforge, where the buildings are grouped close together. Darnassus is open to the sky, and the graceful bridges spanning the lake around which it is built set the buildings wide apart. The prime reason why the city's population is so low is that it is isolated: Teldrassil is a small island away from the main mass of Azeroth, and the only way to gain access from another continent is to fly or sail to Rut'theran Village, a small settlement at the base of Teldrassil, and from there step into the glowing portal to the city proper. This is a good thing, though. It is the elves' capital, and should therefore be serene and quiet, holding the mystic and melancholic elements of the night elves.
I'm going to give Darnassus some love. I first played as an Orc Shaman but my second character was a Night Elf and I was just in awe when I first saw this city. Truly a work of art, but yeah, I won't give it more then an Epic rating because it is out of the way and vacant. Still cool to visit though.
Darnassus is beautiful, but very out of way I'm afraid... no reason to hang around there when traveling from is that hard, unless you are a mage I guess :)
Best security I've seen in any of the cities. After a long boat ride you have to go through a portal, that gives you loading screen before you can see what you're doing inside. If you're not careful, you'll be dead before you know what happened to you.
What this city lacks in usefulness, it makes up for with style. It's wonderfully peaceful place and the music isn't too shabby either. It wouldn't hurt my feelings any if everyone decided to move a few feet closer to the center of town. The bank, auction house, inn, and anyone that can repair you seem to be as far away from each other as they can get.
Definitely agree with the majority on this one. This city is way too open and the traveling time between points is ridiculous considering how much nothing you go past.
I like the ambiance of the city though, but it seems to be the Silvermoon of the Alliance in that no one ever populates it because it's not a central hub of anything. It's got a cool look, but low utility.
The people have rated darnassus as artifact status need their respective heads examined. Arguably the worst city in wow. No people poor layout bad location.
I love Darnassus, and I don't care what anyone else says. My first character, which is still my main, is a night elf, so Darnassus feels like home to me no matter which toon I'm playing. The haters can take a step back.

In short, it's the moonglade of cities.
