Path: Game Content :: Wrath of the Lich King

The Lich King Arthas has set in motion events that could lead to the extinction of all life on Azeroth. With the armies of the undead and the necromantic power of the plague threatening to sweep across the land, only the mightiest heroes can oppose the Lich King's will and end his reign of terror for all time.

Blizzard Entertainment's latest expansion to World of Warcraft - Wrath of the Lich King - adds a host of epic content to the existing game world. Players will achieve soaring levels of power, explore a vast new continent, and battle other high-level heroes to determine the fate of Azeroth.

I think that it brought back the "Fantasy" feel that was somewhat lost in BC.

Although I've seen enough white zones for quite a while.

Definately better than BC.

Overall I consider Wrath of the Lich King to have been a very lazy expansion on Blizzard's part, not including nearly as much content or updates as The Burning Crusade did. I mean, when your end game content is beaten within days of the thing coming out that tells you something.

The gear is mostly uninspired and ugly, casualness is taken to the extreme, and the dungeons are mostly too short.

However, the world design of Northrend is absolutely beautiful and it did a good job of bringing the feel and lore of the game back to its roots. In Azeroth.

I've had a blast in Northrend so far and I can only think it's going to get better as we go. I disagree with Smite when he says most of the gear is ugly, I think the majority of it looks amazing! I can take a break from questing or raiding or whatever it is I'm doing and just go through loot tables ot the WotLK dungeons and raids and try on the armor and weapons and dream :P
The only thing I don't like about Northrend is how hard it is for new new 80s to get started unless they have the help of a guild with a lot of similar folk. My DK hit 80 and I'm STILL working on getting him geared for raids just because of the amount of people that are either A) so overpowered that you get replaced in the group for them or B) when you do find a group, most of the group is comprised of plate and mail wearers so you end up losing out on most of the loot (So I guess if I manage to get my Druid, Mage, or Rogue to Northrend anytime soon I'll probly revamp this opinion :P)

A long anticipated and fun expansion that is not without it's faults. The new continent is beautiful, and it's content unique (not naxx). However the massive changes to classes and raid mechanics have been for both better and worse. I think that overall given the goldmine of lore available WotlK was a little underwhelming, but I enjoy it none the less.

Wrath of the Lich King brought WOW back to it's roots. Fantasy. Northrend is a fun continent to explore, and every zone was rich with flavor, and things to do. I think it really shows what Blizzard learned from Outland and what were the positives and the negative. While I'll miss Northrend, I'll be quite happy to start my adventure again in the new war tarnished Azeroth post Cataclysm.

wotlk brought the game back to what it should be - but still i think cataclysm will do that ever more

WotLK was for sure better than BC, the questing was chained together quite nicely (emphasis on the quest chain leading up to the wrathgate cinematic and concluding with the raid on undercity...the most EPIC quest chain blizz has ever thought of) unlike in vanilla WoW where the quests are all scattered around and dont feel like they connect at all (hopefully cataclysm will change this, or at least thats what blizz has promised) and i do agree with Docjrobert about the whole gear situation, it got so bad for my DK that i started spending the emblems i could have been getting geared with on heirloom items for my alts because i never won rolls on plate gear, and I ended up with full sets for cloth leather mail and plate, I also spent a great deal of triumph on crusader orb because i needed money, but now with patch 3.3 i have finally decided to gear him again and now hes in all epics over 219. all in all this expansion was WELL worth the $40 i paid and im still enjoying it.
